I can think of a few global events or scenarios in my lifetime. The global financial market crisis of 2007 – 2008 and the Covid-19 pandemic are a couple.
There are political, economic, and social situations that potentially have global impact, but events that simultaneously affect all countries, all communities, and all persons are rare.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Matthew 24:14 NKJV
If you’re still with me, you would have noticed that I am not addressing “global warming” – a topic of much debate in recent years. Should we all live another 50 years from 2022, there might still be some back-and-forth about this issue.
There might be some saying, “I told you so!” And, maybe others saying, “you exaggerated!” In any case, if we all were to be able to breathe the atmosphere around us 50 years from now, we would have all been able to say, I may not have gotten it all right but I have had the experience.
Oops! I almost got pulled down the global warming rabbit hole! Lol.
I’m talking “Warning”
I believe that the “end” of which Jesus spoke in Matthew 24:14 is NOT the virtual one to which we come at the keyboard or with joystick in hand. (Jesus never played video games!) The real Jesus spoke of a real event.
Some experiences are too terminal to be experimented or gambled. I’d like to be able to tell my own account of every round of Russian roulette I play (including the unfortunate last one!), but that’s not the nature of that game. So I don’t play it!
Global Gospel
Jesus spoke about the “gospel of the kingdom”. He said it is global – as in, “shall be preached throughout the world”. Following that, the end would come.
I hear you say, what end? What gospel? It is easy to see from the context of the Bible passage in Matthew 24 that the Savior of the world was giving His listeners some warning signs about events on their horizon.
However, Bible scholars tell us that in Matthew 24, He spoke of events in the near future of His listeners as well as events further in the future. The message and warning in verse 14 definitely has global target (all the world) and it certainly applies to you and me today.
Later Jesus would give other messages and warnings to writers like Apostle Paul and John (writer of the gospel of John and the book of Revelation).
Global Warning—Revelation’s Scenario
In Revelation 14, we find the picture of global messengers or angels carrying “the everlasting gospel” and a global warning about worship and judgement.
Have a look at verses 6-7.
[6] Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth-to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people- [7] saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”
Revelation 14:6-7 NKJV
This is an important message. You can, and you should understand it! Even though the book of Revelation IS a revelation, there are those who still think that its contents are “sealed”.
That is so untrue! The book begins…
The Revelation of Jesus Christ,…
Revelation 1:1
How could The Revelation be an un-revelation? I have read it – it is truly The Revelation of Jesus Christ.
A full explanation of this global warning is well beyond the scope of this article, but some resources are cited in this article that explain it all.
Don’t neglect a global warning — especially one given by Jesus for our time! A message or warning from Jesus is always a message of love and the global warning which we find in Revelation 14:6-12 is straight from the heart of your Savior.
You should check it out. And maybe one day — 50 years from now or more — I’ll live to hear you say: I read your article about the global warning! Jesus is awesome!
