About

Me

I love the Bible. I am fascinated by its poetry and prophecy, its history and life stories. I don’t know of any other literature compilation that has been written by up to 40 different people of varied backgrounds, over several centuries, and which has impacted so many lives.

History records that many lives have been lost because of it and many more have found life because of it. People have used it for comfort, for protection, for guidance, for inspiration, and even as weapon. Hmm! Interestingly, it is self-referred to as a double-edged sword! (see Hebrews 4:12)

This blog is my “wondering-out-loud” at some of the things in the Bible that interest me and that have impacted the way I live. I am Bentley Thompson. Join me. Let’s think about some of these things. And while we are at it…

Let’s ponder. Why are some popular Christian beliefs and practices essentially different from views in the Bible? Are the claims and principles of the Bible still relevant today? Which, if any, are outdated, which are pertinent?

It is my intention to invite you to think – not necessarily to give answers. And I do ask questions, the answers to which I may not know. However, it continues to amaze me and gives me hope and understanding. I’m remembering Proverbs 9 verse 10 right now. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (NKJV)

My favorite parts of the Bible are the promises, the prophecies, and the stories of ordinary people. Know what interests me about characters like Abraham, David, Hannah, Nebuchadnezzar, and Saul of Tarsus? It’s how God related to their humanness.

It says a lot about the All-powerful Divine One and that is amazing. So take a look at some of my thoughts. They may stir yours. Let’s think on these things.

Is This The Lord’s Prayer?

During Jesus’ three and one-half year ministry on earth, the things He did – healing, teaching, praying, worshiping, and general ministry – are examples for Christians. In other words, Christ is the example for the Christian. For example, when Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper as a memorial of His death,
